• ２つ目の星には地理学者が住んでいた。

  On the second planet lived a geographer.

• 「地理学者は惑星の海、川、山、砂漠を記述するのだ」と彼は言った

  He said, "Geographers describe the seas, rivers, mountains, and deserts of planets."

• 「なんて興味深いのでしょう！」、と星の王子さまが言った。

  "How interesting!" the Little Prince said.

• 「あなたの惑星には、海はあるのですか？」

  "Does your planet have any seas?"

• 「わからない」と地理学者は言った。

  "I don't know that, either" said the geographer.

• 「おお、川はどうですか？」

  "Oh. What about rivers?"

• 「わからない」と地理学者は言った。

  "I don't know that, either." said the geographer.

• 「山か、砂漠は？」

  "Or mountains or deserts?"

• 「それもわからない」と地理学者は言った。

  "I don't know that, either." the geographer said.

• 「でもあなたは地理学者じゃないですか！」

  "But you're a geographer!"

• 「その通りだ」と彼は言った。

  "Exactly," he said,

• 「私は地理学者で、探検家ではない。探検家が海や川、山、砂漠を探索するのだよ。」

  "I'm a geographer, not an explorer. Explorers explore seas, rivers, mountains, and deserts."

• 「彼らは私のオフィスに来る。私は彼らに質問をして、その答えを書き留めるのさ。」

  "They come to my office. I ask them questions and write down their answers."

• 「決して外へは出ない。」

  "I never go out."

• 「悲しいことに、この惑星には探検家がいないから、君の質問には答えられないよ。」

  "Sadly, there are no explorers on my planet, so I can't answer your questions."

• 「そうなんですね。それは悲しい。」星の王子さまは去り際に言った。

  "I see. That's sad," the Little Prince said as he left.
